CCl4-induced hepatic fibrosis in mice was accompanied by insufficiency of bone marrow myelo- and erythropoiesis. Polymyxin B completely abolished these changes. This phenomenon can be explained by the development of macrophage endotoxin tolerance during hepatic fibrosis.
