He is also team leader of a project funded primarily by the United Nations Population Fund on the implications of the aging population in rural and urban China, which is being implemented by the China National Committee on Aging/China Research Center on Aging. Mario was the deputy directory of the Malta-based International Institute on Aging. He has lectured in Europe, North Africa, East and West Asia and North America. His primary interest lies in the economic conditions of elderly populations.
