The independence to exercise choice often rests on the individual’s triumph over physical and social constraints.

She has developed and directed several projects of national scope for the U.S. Administration on Aging, all concerned with the development of counseling services for older persons. She is the author of numerous books, book chapters, articles, monographs, and instructional videotapes concerning older persons, includingEmpowerment for Later Life, a book published by ERIC/CAPS (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) in 1991 which examines in detail the need for psychological empowerment of older persons.
