Abstract
We perform a rigorous electrodynamic analysis of waves in a stud-loaded rectangular waveguide (SLW) with a dielectric filling. Both symmetric and nonsymmetric waveguides are examined. Radiation conditions are formulated for both surface and leaky waves. The content of the modal spectrum is determined, and the propagation constants are studied as a function of the frequency and/or geometrical parameters of the waveguide.
