Abstract

The optical constants of crystal quartz in the far infrared (10 – 600 cm−1) are reported at room temperature and at 10 K, for both polarizations parallel and perpendicular to the c-axis, respectively extraordinary and ordinary ray. These constants are obtained from the analysis of the transmissivity channeled spectra below 300 cm−1, and from the analysis of the reflectivity spectra between 300 – 600 cm−1, measured by using a grating infrared spectrometer. The extrapolated zero frequency refractive indices of quartz obtained in the present work are: no(0) = 2.106 and ne(0) = 2.153 at 300 K; no(0) = 2.072 and ne(0) = 2.130 at 10 K.
