Abstract
We propose analytical methods for synthesizing the pattern nulls of an isotropic-element array. The methods are based on the correction of currents in the array elements. It is shown that the proposed methods can be used to synthesize the pattern null of an array of emitters with nonidentical complex patterns. We present the results of numerical simulation for the phase and amplitude-phase synthesis of the pattern null of a planar-waveguide array with dielectric inserts fed by an H1 wave. The mechanism by which the higher-order waves, which are evanescent in the inserts, affect the radiation field is discussed. The depth of the synthesized pattern nulls is analyzed as a function of the number of waves taken into account.
