Abstract
A method is proposed for measuring failure stresses and elastic modulus for a coating by means of a four-point bending with precision deflection measurement. A composite has been examined having an Fe 83B17 coating on steel St3. The moduli measured by this method are lower by factors of 2–3 than that for the steel. This is explained by the high porosity of coating and weak cohesion of the coating particles.
