Specifics of the process of explosive cladding by foils

  • Published:
Combustion, Explosion and Shock Waves Aims and scope

Abstract

The specific features of explosive cladding of St. 3-steel plates and shells by copper and aluminum foils of thickness 20 and 50 μm are investigated. It is shown that the cladding is reliable if the foil thickness is comparable with the height of microroughness of a clad surface. The quality of the joint is worsened when the degree of surface finish is improved. The quality of the joint can be improved if the duration of loading is increased. The microroughness of the surface decreases during cladding.
