Abstract

A new citharid flounder,Citharoides orbitalis, is described based on four specimens from Western Australia. The new species can be distinguished from the only known congener,C. macrolepidotus, by its longer orbit, greater distance between the upper eye and dorsal profile, and wider space between each eye and the anterior rim of the orbit.
