Abstract

The effects of hydrogen on the deformation and fracture of alloys in the Fe−Ni alloy system were studied as a function of the alloy composition and the amount of sulfur segregated at the grain boundaries. A ductile-to-brittle transition in the tensile parameters and in the fracture mode was observed as the hydrogen fugacity was increased. The variation of this transition fugacity with segregated sulfur and with the alloy concentration was studied.
