Hydrocarbon oxidation in solutions containing platinum complexes

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Oxidation of saturated hydrocarbons in solutions containing chloride platinum complexes leads to the formation of unstable alkyl platinum compounds and chloro derivatives as primary reaction products, these being subsequently converted to alcohols, esters, ketones, and aromatic compounds as the result of oxidational chlorination, dehydrochlorination, and solvolysis.

  2. 2.

In the case of acetic acid, it was shown that platinum salts can be used to catalyze the oxidation of alkanes by oxygen, copper salts, and quinones.
