Zusammenfassung
In der 1983 gegründeten Cooperativen Studiengruppe Mammakarzinom (COSTMA) argeiten derzeit etwa 50 onkologische Abteilungen Österreichs zusammen. Durch die Ausgewogenheit chirurgischer, gynäkologischer und internistischer Teilnehmer und die demokratische Führung der Studiengruppe konnte ein attraktives Forum geschaffen werden, dem sich laufend neue Interessenten anschließen. In 4 Studien wurden zwischen 1983 und 1990 insgesamt 1127 Patientinnen randomisiert. Derzeit sind diese Protokolle in der Beobachtungsphase. In der 2. Generation von Studienprotokollen der Gruppe wurde mit COSTMA 5 und COSTMA 6 im Jänner 1991 begonnen. Die bisherige Patienteneinbringung dieser beiden Studien umfaßt etwa 35% aller theoretisch österreichweit möglichen Patientinnen und liegt damit im internationalen Vergleich hervorragend. Ab Herbst 1991 wird mit COSTMA 7 eine weitere hochaktuelle Fragestellung in multizentrischer, randomisierter Form untersucht. Die ausgezeichnete Zusammenarbeit der bedeutendsten österreichischen Zentren für die Therapie des Mammakarzinoms ermöglicht eine konzentrierte und aussagekräftige Verwirklichung dieser und zukünftiger Studienprotokolle.
Summary
The Austrian Cooperative Breast Cancer Study Group (COSTMA) which was founded in 1983, consists of about 50 oncologic departments of Austria. Because of the well balanced membership of surgical, gynecological and medical oncologists and due to the democratic management of the study group, an outstanding platform was built up which is continuously joined by additional departments. Between 1983 and 1990 1127 patients were randomized in-to 4 study protocols which are currently in the follow-up period. The second generation of protocols started with COSTMA 5 and COSTMA 6 in January 1991. In these studies the patient recruitment today encloses about 35% of the calculated incidence of breast cancer in Austria, which is a quite good result in the international comparison. With COSTMA 7 which starts in autumn 1991, another highly interesting research protocol will be investigated. The perfect cooperation of the biggest Austrian breast cancer centers enables us to obtain clear results within reasonable recruitment periods, both for current and protocols to come.
