The nature of lower bainite midrib

Abstract

The morphology, crystallography, microarea orientation, and carbon distributing state of the lower bainite midrib observed in three silicon contained steels were studied by means of trans- mission electron microscopy (TEM), electron microdiffraction technique, and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS). New experimental information on the orientation and carbon con- centration differences between the midrib and the surrounding bainitic ferrite matrix was ob- tained. The nature of the midrib in connection with the transformation mechanism of lower bainite is discussed.
