Abstract

Recent work on the thermodynamic properties and phase diagram of the lead-tin system has provided an excellent opportunity to evaluate the lowering of the eutectic temperature by the addition of a small amount of silver. For these low silver content, ternary solders, the Pb-Sn eutectic temperature is decreased by 3.3 °C owing to the addition of 1 wt pct silver.
