Summary
A retrospective study was carried out on 121 consecutive patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) treated surgically. Indication for operation was in 80% asymptomatic, in 20% ruptured aneurysm. 69.5% of patients were operated in the past 5 years. Postoperative mortality rate was 100% and 50% respectively for ruptured AAA, 18.7% and 14.7% respectively for elective repair. Standardized operative technique and accurate perioperative monitoring reduced our current postoperative mortality to 3.3%.
