Abstract
The kinetics of the recovery of yield stress as a function of annealing treatment has been examined for prestrained specimens of 316L stainless steel. Detailed metallographic and electron microscopy investigations of the changes in the structure have been performed. From these observations it has been concluded that the drop in the yield stress is related to the annihilation of extrinsic grain boundary dislocations (EGBD’s) and the dislocations in the vicinity of the grain boundaries.
