Abstract

The existence of a spinodal for the ordered phase at the tricritical point has been demonstrated by Allen and Cahn.5,6 In the present study, the existence of a second spinodal for the disordered phase at lower temperatures is rationalized thermodynamically. The relative interplay of the chemical and magnetic contributions to the stabilities of various types of phase equilibria in binary alloys is also discussed.
