Abstract
Pristane has been isolated from sperm whale oil. The monounsaturated alcohols have been isolated and the position of the double bond determined by a modified von Rudloff oxidation technique. Several isomers have been found for each chain length suggesting that many of the alcohols have a dietary origin.
