Summary
As in every science, petrology becomes quantitative when one can translate in algorithms the logical operations practically realized by the subject. These stresses are synthesized here to four principles:
-
—the local invariance by translation,
-
—compatibility with the homotheties,
-
—local knowledge, and
-
—the upper semi-continuity.
The finality of the morphological operations is then analysed. One distinguishes the morphological description in itself represented by the criteria arising from the identification of physical laws represented by the models.
