Abstract
Background: According to the improved treatment of burn victims, more and more patients survive severe and serious burns. Physical and psychological problems are the result. Readjustment to social roles and life style following a burn injury is a difficult process for many burn victims.
Methode: 48 patients, who survived burns of more than 40% BSA were followed up by or standartized questionair.
Results: 61% of them were employing their original profession. Men handle much easier their disfigurement than woman.
Conclusions: Treatment by a psychotherapist after discharge from the burn unit seems to be necessary.
