Abstract
Surgical Principles
In non-union of the scaphoid with a small proximal fragment, this fragment is resected and replaced by a mushroom-shaped block of cortico-cancellous bone obtained from the superior anterior iliac spine. The stalk of this bone graft is impacted into a preformed cavity in the distal scaphoid fragment, thus restoring the original size and shape of the scaphoid.
Under normal conditions, good functional adaptation of the bone graft occurs.
This procedure was first described by Russe in 1977 [3].
