„Lebensqualität“ — ein Beurteilungskriterium in der Chirurgie

Quality of life — A factor of medical outcome in surgery

Zusammenfassung

Grundlagen: Seitdem erkannt wurde, daß psychosoziale Aspekte im Rahmen chirurgischer Behandlungen von durchaus großer Relevanz sind, gewinnt die Lebensqualität der betroffenen Patienten als Outcome-Kriterium zunehmend an Bedeutung.

Methodik: Der vorliegende Artikel bietet einen Überblick bezüglich methodischer und konzeptueller Ansätze bei der Lebensqualitätserfassung.

Ergebnisse: Bestehende Probleme bei der Erhebung, gängige Verfahren der Lebensqualitätsforschung werden angeführt und teilweise diskutiert. Weiters werden Ziele und mögliche Evaluationsbereiche innerhalb der Chirurgie erwähnt und es wird auf die Notwendigkeit der Lebensqualitätserfassung hingewiesen.

Schlußfolgerungen: Lebensqualitätsdaten besitzen für zahlreiche Bereiche der Chirurgie eine außerordentliche Relevanz und sollten in Zukunft sogar bei einigen Erkrankungen als Routinemaß erhoben werden.

Summary

Background: The knowledge about the relevance of psychosocial aspects of surgical treatments has increased the importance of quality of life of patients as a factor of medical outcome also in surgery.

Methods: The present article offers a general view of different methodological and conceptual aspects of quality of life research.

Results: Existing problems of evaluation and some basic inventories are demonstrated and partly discussed. Possible aims and domains of evaluation in surgery are mentioned and the necessity of quality of life pointed out.

Conclusions: Quality of life data possess an exceptional relevance in many domains of surgery and should be collected routinely in some diseases for the future.
