Melanosis coli

A study with the electron microscope

  • Published:
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum

Summary

The fine structure of the pigment of melanosis coli is described. This pigment differs from melanin and from the pigment of denervated muscle. It is suggested that the pigment granules are produced in the mononuclear cells of the tunica propria and have their origin in degenerating mitochondria.
