Report of a case

  • Published:
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum

Summary

An unusual instance of a patient with a sigmoidal colostomy of 27 years’ duration is presented. Although the anus was completely healed and closed, sphincteric musculature was present and active. The levator ani muscles were present. Apull-through procedure was performed, in which the descending colon was delivered through the perineum and a satisfactorily functioning “anus” was reconstructed. During the period of 31/2 years, since the operation, the patient has enjoyed normal bowel function.
