Summary
A case of diverticulum of the anal canal is described and the literature is reviewed. The patient presented with rectal bleeding. The lesion felt like an epithelioma on palpation, due to a hard fecolith in the diverticulum. Although one cannot exclude the possibility of an acquired diverticulum, its congenital origin appears to be the most logical explanation. Complete excision is an easy procedure which results in cure.
