Thus Hermann Axen said, among other things: “It cannot be denied that the increasing seriousness of the capitalist crisis, immoderate profiteering and the firms’ embargo policies have caused complicated problems in the implementation of planned commodity and materials imports for us too”. Pay rises for local authority employees were implemented in June; remuneration for apprentices was raised too. Other pay rises for employees of the health and social services — in addition to an end-year payment in 1973 — were implemented in mid-year. At the same time some ladies’ outerwear came down in price. Lastly, minimum holidays are due to go up from 15 to 18 working days at the end of this year. Further rises in wages and salaries (e. g. for banks and savings banks employees) are planned for January 1 and April 1, 1975.
There have recently been plenty of complaints about extra output not matched by demand: “… what is the use of a counter-plan commitment producing additional goods the domestic demand for which can be met by normal production? None. it only result in stocks … unless additional export opportunities either exist or can be opened up.” Cf. Die Wirtschaft, No. 3/1974, p. 9.
