Anorectal problems: Surgical incisions for complicated anal fistulas

Summary

Complicated anal fistulas caused by anal crypt infection follow a predictable course around the anorectum and may be traced to one or more of six extensions from the posterior anal space. By using multiple radial incisions, which convert a complicated horseshoe tract into several adequately drained sinus tracts, anal fistula may be eliminated without causing the structural or functional deficits that follow surgical incisions that encompass entire fistulous tracts and multiple external openings.
