Summary
In the period from 1989 to February 1992 21 patients underwent surgical procedures for neuroblastoma. According to the present concept of treatment it is recommended that patients with localized tumor undergo a resection, where as with more advanced tumor, after chemotherapy, delayed surgery and second-look operations are suggested. All in all, the role of surgery in treatment of neuroblastoma remains still unclear. Important for the overall treatment is a uniform staging system, into which the parameters provided by surgery should be incorporated. New techniques such as ultrasound dissection for the improvement of operation results will be studied and tested.
