Summary

Numerous clinical studies in patients undergoing general surgery have provided evidence that the antithrombotic activity of single daily injections of low molecular weight heparins are at least equipotent as b.i.d. or t.i.d. injections of unfractionated heparin. Thereby, the stress of the patient can be appreciably reduced and the nursing staff is spared a great deal of work. Also tolerance of low molecular weight heparin prophylaxis seems to be comparable with that of conventional heparin.
