Summary

For treatment of bleeding esophageal varices a modification ofHassab's devascularization procedure is recommended if the standard therapy fails. For prevention of necrosis of the devascularized fundus this area is turned inward. Only in one of 8 cases mild postoperative bleeding was observed, one case was lost postoperatively because of respiratory insufficiency.
