Summary

Two cases were operated upon because they demonstrated symptoms of peritonitis in the course of diabetic precoma. In this situation laparotomy should be defered until the hyperglycemia has been corrected by appro-priate therapy. However, if symptoms persist after normalization of blood glucose explorative laparotomy becomes mandatory.
