Summary

This paper suggests a methodology, based on 1:25,000 engineering-geological mapping of the southeastern part of the Outer Dinarides, for engineering geological mapping in folded mountain regions.

The territory of the Outer Dinarides, as an orogenic region in the hinterland of the Yugoslav coast is distinguished by the variety and complexity of engineering geological conditions. This is the result of the dynamics of geological processes which represent an important component of engineering geological conditions.

Such conditions require, apart from the application of usual methods, the application of new engineering geological mapping methods: scanogram (satellite photo) analysis, the application of the phototheodolite, etc. Besides this, the paper suggests composing supplementary, preliminary, prognostic engineering geological maps: seismic risk maps, slope stability maps, erosion process intensity maps, etc. These maps, together with the composition of basic engineering geological maps, enables the engineering geological conditions of folded mountain, regions to be objectively presented.
