Abstract

Historical figures for tin production are briefly reviewed. Then follow sections summarizing: 1) the regional geology of South-West England (loosely termed Cornubia), 2) the nature and disposition of metalliferous lodes and their principal ore minerals, 3) some previous theories concerning metallogenesis and, 4) a statement of relevant isotopic age data.

A central conclusion is that the primary tin mineralization was linked with the physiochemical processes responsible for acid volcanism during Lower Permian times; processes seemingly induced by a now inconspicuous alliance between erosional and gravitational forces. Subsequently, the region apparently became a hot spring province with intermittent activity continuing into the Tertiary.
