Summary

For several decades packer tests (LUGEON) have been used as the most important method to check the water permeability of rock masses at dam sites. The report deals with technical difficulties frequently observed during the performance of the test and with possible interpretations of the results. Special attention is paid to deformation and erosion phenomena and to the effects of long-term tests. Furthermore, the importance of packer tests for the assessment of water losses, of foundation water pressures and erosion will be discussed.
