Summary

The main structures of the hydroengineering complex in the region of the towns Nikopol and Turnu-Magurele will be built on Cenomanian marly clays and alluvial sediments of the river Danube. Investigations on the microstructure of marly clays show the presence of large micropores and microfissures. These structural and textural peculiarities have a significant effect upon deformation behaviour of samples of these clays in uniaxial or triaxial compression tests. The “stress-deformation” curves have parabolic character in the initial part of the deformation process. The analysis of the same curves shows that the results obtained could be used to assess the irreversible deformations under the constructions which occurred on account of the destruction of the large micropores and closing of the microfissures.
