Diazepam and local anesthesia in anorectal surgery

  • Published:
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum

Summary

At the Ferguson Clinic, 161 anorectal procedures utilizing intravenously administered diazepam and lidocaine 0.5 per cent, with epinephrine, 1∶200,000, wer done. Of the patients so treated, 12 per cent needed additional medication in order for anesthesia to be effective. No complication resulted from the use of these combinations. It is recommended that the combination of intravenously administered diazepam with local injection of lidocaine and epinephrine be given wider usage because of its ease of handling and very low complication rate.
