Studies on the composition of sunflower seed heads

Abstract

The composition of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) seed heads was investigated. High amounts of lignin (12%) were found while glycosides comprised a minor component of the plant material. Lipids were isolated and a total sterol content of 1.05% was found. A protein content of 12.5% was also found. Acid hydrolysis of the plant material showed the presence of combined galacturonic acid (8%), galactose (3.4%), glucose (1.7%), arabinose (0.63%), xylose (0.7%) and rhamnose (21%). The factors influencing the extraction of pectin (11.85%) were studied.

Résumé

La composition des têtes des fleurs du soleil (Helianthus annuus) a été examinée. Des grands quantités de lignine ont été fondues (12%) pendant que glycosides ont compris un contenant mineur du material de la plante. Lipids ont été isolés et un contenant totale de sterol a été fondu égal 1.05%. Un contenant de proteine a été encore fondu égal 12.5%. Un acide hydrolysé du material de la plante a montré la présence de l'acide combiné galacturonique (8%), galactose (3.4%), glucose (1.7%), arabinose (0.63%), xyclose (0.7%) et rhamnose (21%). Des facteures influençant l'extraction du pectine (11.85%) ont été étudiés.
