  • Published:
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum

Summary

Endocavitary irradiation is a local form of treatment that is able to cure many early cancers in the lower part of the rectum with conservation of intestinal and anal function, especially in elderly or fragile patients. Selection of patients must be very strict, particularly in regard to the site of the tumor, its morphology, and its histology. There must be careful, periodic followup of each patient.
