Summary
A case of leiomyosarcoma of the rectum associated with rectal amebiasis is presented. This is the first case to be reported. Initially, amebiasis obscurred the histologic diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma, but incomplete regression following a course of treatment with metronidazole aroused the suspicion of malignancy, which was confirmed on repeat biopsy. A brief review of the features of leiomyosarcoma was also undertaken.
