Insulin-binding antibodies in diabetic patients and their relationship to insulin treatment

  • Published:
Acta diabetologia latina Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Insulin-binding antibodies were sought by a new method in the sera of diabetic patients. They were found in 46% of insulin-treated diabetics and in 15% of the diabetic patients who had never received insulin. None was found in non diabetic control subjects. These results suggest that insulin auto-antibody production may occur in diabetics and that such antibodies may play a role in the pathogenesis or later evolution of the disease.
