Abstract
The stresses occurring in elastic-plastic problems with spherical or cylindrical symmetry can be represented by uniform expressions containing integrals over the radius with the equivalent plastic strain as a factor of the integrand. These terms, which may be interpreted as compatibilizing stresses, are closely related to the residual stresses.
