Abstract
Homogeneous, heterogeneous, and composite-structural rock masses and the characteristic failure mechanisms are identified. Methods of calculating the stability of pit edges under various geological conditions are presented. Stage-by-stage estimation of the stability degree of the pit edges as the mining operations deepen is recommended to prevent their large-scale deformations.
