A modification of the thiersch technic

  • Published:
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum

Summary

An experiment was carried out in 30 dogs, using a modified Thiersch technic that consists of applying the usual cerclage together with an electric current through two types of thermocautery at low voltage. The modification is designed to produce cauterization and thus promote fibrosis at the level of the anorectal muscle ring. In a group of 20 dogs the cerclage was withdrawn immediately after the procedure, and in another 10 it was withdrawn after 31 days. There were 22 favorable results. Complications of the modification are described.
