Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of fibromuscular dysplasia of the internal carotid artery

Abstract

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty via the common femoral artery was performed in a 32-year-old woman with neurologic symptoms secondary to stenosis of the left internal carotid artery due to fibromuscular dysplasia. Good anatomic results after dilatation and gradual normalization of the neurologic symptoms show that this technique can be used for the treatment of nonarteriosclerotic stenosis of the internal carotid artery.
