Abstract
Measurements of ventricular size and position in adults by echoencephalographic techniques have been largely confined to cases of hydrocephalus. With the stability of display resulting from a specially designed transducer-holder, the authors were able to measure the position of the body of the lateral ventricle in one third of an unselected series of cases most of whom had ventricles of normal size.
The authors do not believe that such a technique can play any useful role in neurological investigation. It would appear to be difficult to identify those echoes arising from the ventricular walls. This uncertainty results in frequent inaccurate measurements being made of ventricular size which negates the value of those measurements which are accurate. It was possible to guess the position of the ventricles by brief evaluation of the patient's clinical state approximately as often as it could be successfully measured by our technique.
Sommaire
