Abstract

The principal possibility of the transformation of an air compression wave into a shock wave in drifts during the primary caving of a difficult-to-cave roof has been established. A criterion of shock-wave formation was obtained, and estimates of the pressure and temperature jumps on its front, and the distance along the length of the drift from the face are given on the basis of a one-dimensional model of an isoentropic flow.
