Abstract
Total syntheses of polyunsaturated fatty acids labeled at the double bonds or the terminal methylene groups with tritium and the carboxyl group with C14 are discussed. The methods are applicable for all known unsaturated fatty acids with polyallylic structure andall-cis configuration.
Details for the synthesis of labeled γ-linolenic acid are given and methods of ozonolysis for determining the structure of unsaturated fatty acids are described.
