Abstract

The fatty acid monoenes esterified to the alkane diol diesters of vernix caseosa lipid form two patterns of homologues starting from either C16Δ9 or C16Δ6 and adding (or subtracting) an integral number of C2 units at the carboxyl group. Although components of the Δ6 pattern are the predominant monoenes of sebaceous gland ester lipid classes, for these diol diesters Δ9 pattern components are preferentially used.
