Abstract

(+)-Erythro-2,3-dihydroxyhexacosanoic acid was found in a mixture of cerebrins (ceramides containing sphingosines and phytosphingosines) from the yeastSaccharomyces cerevisiae. The structure was deduced on the basis of elemental analyses, gas liquid chromatography and thin layer chromatography of the appropriate derivatives of the acid and its oxidation products.
