Abstract
The presence of lipoxygenase enzyme is observed when cells ofChlorella pyrenoidosa are homogenized under anaerobic conditions. This is the first report of this enzyme in a lower form of plant life. The major product ofChlorella lipoxygenase with linoleic acid as substrate is 13-hydroperoxyoctadecadienoic acid.
